Effingham County property tax bills went into the mail on Thursday.

These are the bills for 2019, payable in 2020.

At least the first installment of your bill is due to be paid Friday, October 23 to avoid a 1-1/2% per month interest penalty for late payment.

The second installment will be due Friday, December 4.

You're asked to be aware that tax bills with property ownership changes after December 31, 2019 will not reflect the new owner's name and address, and must be forwarded to the person or persons responsible for payment.

There is additional information available regarding real estate tax collection, tax due dates, the tax cycle and the Treasurer's Office's real estate tax pre-payment program. Visit the County Treasurer's website at www.co.effingham.il.us

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Effingham County property owners are asked to consider using these forms of payment, for your protection as well as the protection of the office staff:

--mail your payments to the Effingham County Treasurer; the address can be found on the upper left corner of the front of the tax bill or at the top of the back of the tax bill

--pay at any Effingham County bank using the drive-up facilities

--pay your taxes online at www.co.effingham.il.us; follow the link Pay Taxes Online or go to the Treasurer's website

County Treasurer Paula Miller said that if you need to pay in person in the County Treasurer's office, you will be required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. They appreciate your understanding.
