The Altamont Board of Education has filled a vacancy by bringing back a long-time former member.

Dale Laue, who served on the Board for 20 years through 2009 including time as board president, was named to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Ross Cornett. Cornett resigned to take a job with the school district as a technology co-ordinator.

The Altamont board this week also approved a three-year contract agreement with the Altamont Education Association, which represents district teachers. Altamont Superintendent Steve Mayerhofer said the contract includes average 2.75% pay increases for teachers each year. The contract covers this school year and the following two years.

The board finalized the budget for the fiscal year; approved an upgrade of the district's firewall; approved an agreement with OKAW Area Vocational Center for vo ed instruction; agreed to spend up to $8,000 to retrofit 18 computer units in the district's shop class; and accepted Mitch Martin's resignation as 8th grade boys basketball coach, hiring Sam Plum to serve as coach.
