Effingham Unit 40 school board members Tuesday voted to purchase 12 air purifying units for use in district buildings.

Superintendent Mark Doan said the units will be placed in each office and in cafeteria areas of a size that the units will benefit. The Hearts Rock Cafe at the high school is too large for the units to do any good. The total cost is $22,866.

Doan said the purifiers kill airborne particles, including COVID-19.

The Board also voted Tuesday to expel a student from Tuesday through the end of the 2020-2021 school year. The student will be referred to an alternative education setting.

Board members also acted on some personnel matters. We will report on those later Wednesday.
