Mattoon resident Cody Parsons has received a seven-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to drug induced homicide.

(CODY PARSONS)

Parsons was arrested in May in Charleston. The arrest followed a report of an unresponsive man in Mattoon. The 34-year-old was found to be dead, due to an overdose of heroin. The investigation that followed led to Parsons' arrest, as well as that of 23-year-old Jada Hart of Mattoon.

The charges allege that Hart arranged for the deceased to purchase heroin from Parsons and actively helped facilitate the transaction by handling the communications, transportation and funneling of drugs and money between Parsons and the deceased.

Hart is to next be in court on September 21. She faces similar charges.
