Clay County board members heard Tuesday from representatives of the Illinois Separation Group about having an advisory question on the November ballot about separating Chicago from the rest of Illinois and forming a new state.

The question would be non-binding. The Clay board voted to support the initiative.

The Board also heard from County Engineer Darin Koelm that work is progressing on the construction of the Little Wabash River bridge at Louisville on the Sailor Springs Road. Koelm said when they began construction, they knew weather could cause delays and push the completion date past 18 months. He said they made good progress at the start, but the rains the past two months have slowed the work. Koelm said the completion date for the $5.5 million bridge project is still the fall of 2021, depending upon the weather and any unexpected delays.
