A man is in custody in connection with the death of a woman from an altercation in Cumberland County.

44-year-old Tobby Lane of Westfield is currently in Cumberland County Jail on a count of aggravated battery, but Cumberland County State's Attorney Bryan Robbins said the victim, Bridget Duncan, died of her injuries early Wednesday morning at Carle Hospital in Urbana. Robbins could not presently discuss the case, and did not know where Duncan lived.

Robbins had planned to be in Cumberland County Circuit Court Thursday afternoon for a bond hearing, and to request the court file charges of first degree murder and aggravated domestic battery. The hearing, though, could not take place as the Courthouse in Toledo has been closed for the rest of the week for cleaning.

Robbins said the case originated in Coles County, and said Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 5 has been heading up the investigation.

First degree murder is a Class M felony punishable by up to 20 to 60 years in prison. Aggravated domestic battery is a Class 2 felony punishable by up to three to seven years in prison.
