Two people were injured in a collision north of Effingham Monday morning.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department reports vehicles driven by 34-year-old Melissa Westjohn of Teutopolis and 17-year-old Jade Jewell of Mattoon collided at 9:35am. The crash happened on US Route 45, just south of 1900th Avenue about three miles north of the city. Deputies report Jewell was stopped, waiting to turn into a private drive, when her vehicle was struck from behind by Westjohn's vehicle.

Westjohn was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, while Jewell declined to be taken for treatment.

Westjohn was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, and no valid driver's license.
