A pickup truck overturned on I-57 near Effingham late Monday morning.

The crash occured around 11:30am about three miles south of Effingham in the northbound lane of the interstate.

Effingham Fire Chief Bob Tutko reported 49-year-old Jonathan Hallberg and 46-year-old Christina Hallberg were traveling in the pickup truck that was pulling a travel trailer when the axle of the trailer snapped, causing the pickup and trailer to fishtail. The pickup truck rolled over onto the passenger side. The pickup ended up in the median, but the travel trailer ended up on one of the northbound lanes.

The motor compartment of the pickup truck caught fire. A nearby IDOT crew assisted the victims of the crash and were able to control the fire until Effingham firefighters reached the scene.

The Hallbergs, who are from Kalamazoo, Michigan, were taken by Abbott EMS to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.
