The St. Anthony High School WYSE Team fared well Thursday in sectional competition at Eastern Illinois University.

St. Anthony captured first place honors, so will advance to State competition later this spring.  The St. Anthony team had earlier done well at Regional competition at Lake Land College to reach Sectional.

Among individual performances for St. Anthony, Michael Goldstein earned first place in Computer Science, Jesse Haarmann finished second in Math, Lauren Schmidt earned first place in Chemistry, and Jake Spraul earned first place in Physics.

Other St. Anthony WYSE team members are Liam Andrews, Allison Bushue, John Goeckner, Frank Jansen, Maggie Mumm, Nick Nosbisch, Scott Rentfrow, Kate Richards, Sarah Wortman and Francesco DeFilippi.

The WYSE Academic Challenge is a competitive series of tests created and administered by Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering and offered to high school students in Illinois and Missouri.  The tests are now offered by more than 50 community colleges and universities and are designed to present a challenge to the brightest students.

Test material is drawn from senior high school and freshman-level college curricula.  Written by teams of college and university faculty, subjects include biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering graphics, English, mathematics and physics.
