Saturday's Polar Plunge to raise funds for Special Olympics was a whopper of a success.

The event raised $40,809 for the organization.

The Best Costume award went to the Effingham Police Department's "Shock and Thaw".

221 people took the plunge Saturday at Lake Sara.

Local attorney Scott Ealy took the plunge attired in his legal garb.  Ealy is surrounded by a ladies team dressed as "ice cubes".
