A police pursuit of a stolen vehicle stretched over 220 miles through the central part of the state Friday afternoon.

Effingham County Sheriff Dave Mahon said the vehicle was stolen in Peoria. Tazewell County sheriff's deputies gave pursuit then ended the pursuit. Mattoon police gave pursuit when the vehicle came through southbound on I-57.

The vehicle went east on I-70 at Effingham and then exited the interstate at Montrose, heading south on the Dieterich/Clay City Blacktop. The pursuit proceeded into Richland County at about 3:30 pm, then headed south on Route 130 after an attempt to stop the vehicle with stop sticks on a rural road near Olney.

The chase finally ended near Albion, when the vehicle was stopped, and police took the subject, a white male, into custody.
