A local developer has changed his plans for an apartment building after his prospective neighbors voiced objections.

Paul and Diana Doedtman plan to construct a four-unit apartment building at 1114 North Wenthe Drive.  They asked for a variance from the Effingham City Zoning Board of Appeals Tuesday night that would reduce the required 25-foot setback down to 22 feet on the east side of the property.

One group of neighbors asked for a fence to cordon off the property while another asked for shrubs.

Doedtman decided he would instead reduce the dimensions of the apartment building and withdrew his request for the variance.
