Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker Wednesday said he's heeding the call from many residents and is extending the deadline for filing state tax returns to July 15.

The three-month extension mirrors the new federal filing deadline instituted over the weekend. The deadline typically is April 15.

Citizens had worried about paying their taxes amid job losses and instability caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

The governor also has announced three programs for small businesses to tap into a share of $90 milion in state emergency assistance. The programs begin this Friday.
