Earlier in the week, it looked like things would fall into place for another winter storm to move through the area. Now, it's looking like mostly rain, and maybe an inch of snow for Effingham. However, as the rain moved in Monday night, some in the area saw heavy sleet before a change to rain.

The area had been forecast by the National Weather Service to receive up to 2 inches of snow, along with some minor ice accumulation. The snow portion of the weather system that's driving this has moved further to the north.

Areas north of a line from Champaign to Decatur will see as much as 5 inches of snow mixed with freezing rain, while areas in the northwest portion of the state will see as much as 8 inches of new snow.
