Cowden-Herrick school board members are moving ahead with plans to issue up to $1.7 million in general obligation bonds.

The revenue will finance electrical upgrades at Herrick Grade School and at Cowden-Herrick High School. The upgrades will accommodate the installation of air-conditioning at the two buildings.

Superintendent Seth Schuler said the project involves split systems that will include air-conditioning in the high school gym. At the Herrick building, window air-conditioners will be installed.

Schuler said the work will also involve drop ceilings and LED lighting in the original 1937 portion of the Herrick building, tuckpointing at the Herrick building, and repaving the main driveways at both buildings.

The Board also approved a facility improvement proposal from Upchurch Group, and agreed to seek bids for the resurfacing of the driveways as well as mowing.

Also at this month's meeting, the Cowden-Herrick board tabled action on whether to purchase a scoreboard for the junior high building.

In personnel moves, the Board employed Kendall Knop as high school English teacher, and approved personal leave requests for Pam Siddens and Tammy Evans.
