SAHS Student Wins SAGS Fitness Challenge as Part of Catholic Schools Week

St. Anthony High School senior Jack Elder won the Fitness Challenge held Monday afternoon at St. Anthony Grade School as part of the Fitness Challenge during Catholic Schools Week.

There were seven competitions. Joining Elder were his high school basketball coach Cody Rincker, who is a teacher at the grade school; Effingham County sheriff's deputy Rob Brown; Illinois State Police Master Sergeant Mark Flack; Effingham Police Department Officer Alec Oestrich; Effingham Firefighter Ken Hayes; Abbott EMS' Dakota Shadwell; Illinois National Guard Specialist Tristen Duran; St. Anthony Priest Father Mark Tracy; and SAGS teacher Amy Allred.

Elder totaled 49 points, edging Coach Rincker by two. Hayes finished third, two points farther back.

The contestants competed in everything from long jump to toe touches. The kids loved it.

More than $550 was collected by the students with the winning competitor getting to select the beneficiary. Elder chose Crisis Nursery.
