A freight train was delayed Thursday morning when a wheel bearing on an engine blew out.

The incident happened about 7am on the tracks along Illinois Route 33, west of Dieterich. No one was injured.

Teutopolis Fire Protection District Chief Tim McMahon said he knew the Bishop Road railroad crossing was blocked for a time. Firefighters were on the scene for about 20 to 25 minutes. A couple of witnesses told firefighters that the engine was on fire, but any fire was due to the blown out bearing. McMahon said the bearing was smoldering when they reached the scene.
