Teutopolis Begins Search for Elementary Principal

 

Teutopolis school board members Monday discussed the search for a Director of Maintenance and Grounds, and the start of a search for an elementary principal.

Board members agreed that whoever is chosen for the Maintenance and Grounds position should have "hands-on skills", so some work needed can be done in house, rather than having to hire someone for assistance.

The elementary principal's position was formally posted on Monday. Angie Sheehan is retiring from the job, having served as elementary principal the past 10 years. Sheehan had been the district athletic director and assistant high school principal before moving to the elementary principal's position.

Board members heard that work began Monday on the asbestos abatement at Teutopolis High School. Interim Superintendent Deb Philpot said the actual removal of asbestos will start next week.

The Board approved a senior class trip to Chicago on April 15; heard that Kindergarten enrollment for next school year is at about 57 students with pre-school screening planned in February, and observed a moment of silence in memory of longtime Teutopolis educator Craig Lindvahl.

There was discussion about a request to use propane to heat the baseball shed, heard that a meeting will be scheduled in February with Teutopolis village officials on the village's Tax Increment Financing district, and heard from Teutopolis student Nick Tensen, who plans to build podiums for the district music program as his Eagle Scout project.

The Board also kept all closed session minutes for the past six months closed, and approved destroying all closed session recordings more than 18 months old as allowed by State law. Board members also hired Hollie Sarchet as a full time bus driver.
