An Altamont man is in custody after a domestic dispute led to a standoff Saturday night. Reportedly, a weapon was involved, but no shots were fired and no one was injured.

Standoff Altamont

28-year-old Ryan J. Beccue of Altamont is the person in custody. Altamont Police Chief Alan Heiens said the initial charge on which Beccue will be held is Home Invasion.

Heiens said Beccue went to his ex-wife's residence and the situation deteriorated. Beccue was later located at a residence along US Route 40 in Altamont near Altamont Community High School. Authorities obtained a search warrant to enter the residence and Beccue was taken into custody without incident shortly before 9pm.

Altamont city police were assisted by Effingham County Sheriff's Department, Fayette County Sheriff's Department, Effingham City Police Department, the ILEAS SWAT Team and the Strategic Resource Team.

The eastern part of Altamont was affected by the incident. A bus taking students to an event at Altamont Community High School was rerouted to Altamont Grade School and Altamont High School Principal Jerry Tkachuk was contacted to assist in notifying parents of the situation. There was also an event at Immanuel Lutheran Church and that venue was secured until police were certain of the suspect's location.
