(THE CENSUS BUREAU'S ERIN BOYD)

A representative of the US Census Bureau shared that "it's all about that funding" when it comes to getting the most accurate count possible.

Erin Boyd is a Partnership Specialist in the Bureau's Chicago office. However, she's an area native and lives near Wendelin. She was the First Friday Luncheon speaker for December. The luncheon is sponsored by the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce.

Boyd said the toughest groups to get an accurate count are snowbirds (those who head south for the winter), children birth to five years old, and college students (who might not get counted at home OR at school). She said a lower population count may lead those who allocate funding to think less dollars are needed in those areas.

Boyd said there will be options as to how to respond to the Census in 2020. You can still fill out a form, but you will also be able to phone in your information and you'll be able to provide your information via the Internet.

There was a special moment at the First Friday event; Chamber Membership Director Becky Brown was honored for her 25th anniversary with the Chamber.
