More information is available on the weekend's water rescues in the south part of Effingham County.

Water Rescue

Actually, the Effingham County Dive Rescue Team was called to respond to two separate incidents.

Just after 4 pm Saturday, Dive Rescue team members responded to 400th Avenue, approximately a quarter-mile west of 1500th Street. A 73-year-old Edgewood woman who had driven her SUV across a flooded roadway became stranded in the rising floodwaters. Divers, with the assistance of the Effingham County Sheriff's Department, rescued the woman from the flooded vehicle. She was checked by awaiting fire and EMS personnel and declined EMS care.

Then, at 8:41 pm Saturday, Dive Rescue team members responded to the Mason-Eberle Road (300th Avenue) just west of US Route 45 for three people stranded in a minivan in the floodwaters. Divers rescued a 69-year-old Mason woman, a 36-year-old Mason man, and a 60-year-old Effingham woman from the rising floodwaters. All three were checked by awaiting fire and EMS personnel and declined EMS care.

The Effingham County Dive Rescue Team thanked all the emergency first responders that assisted with the successful rescues and the quick work of the Effingham County Sheriff's Department 911 telecommunicators. The Dive Rescue Team also encourages everyone to "Turn Around, Don't Drown!" and not drive across flooded roadways or into any kind of floodwaters.
