The 27-year-old Cathey was charged in connection with a June 10 incident at a residence in the 200 block of East St. Louis Avenue. Authorities were called to the property after they were contacted about an explosion in the garage at the residence. A person was found lying on the ground near the garage who was identified as Cathey.

In court Thursday, Cathey pleaded guilty to arson in exchange for dismissal of a more serious charge of residential arson. Both sides agreed to a cap of 10 years in prison. The offense could be punishable by up to 14 years in prison.

Cathey, who remains in jail under $75,000 bond, is due to be sentenced on January 9.
