Probation and Jail Time for One Involved in Drive By Shooting in Mattoon

Probation and jail time is the sentence for one of those charged in a drive by shooting in Mattoon in October.

18-year-old Dillon Collier of Mattoon was arrested on October 19 on a charge of reckless discharge of a firearm. The charge stemmed from an incident just after midnight on the 19th.

Collier was charged with being the driver of the vehicle used in the shooting while knowing that his passenger, 18-year-old Dylan Shull of Mattoon, was going to fire a gun into an occupied home.

The incident just after midnight on the 19th in the 400 block of DeWitt Avenue in Mattoon. Mattoon police learned that nine bullets had been shot into a house that was occupied by several adults and an infant. No one was hit by the gunfire.

Collier pleaded guilty to reckless discharge of a firearm. He was placed on two years probation and sentenced to 150 days in jail, as well as 180 days and 30 days in jail on two other counts, as well as a fine and drug and alcohol treatment, along with 100 hours of community service.

Meanwhile, Shull is next due in court on December 16 on counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm.

A third defendant, 18-year-old Bailey Hutchinson of Mattoon, was also arrested on the 19th after service of a search warrant at a residence in the 900 block of North 33rd Street by the Coles County Crisis Response Team. Shull was staying at the residence. Firearms stolen in burglaries in Mattoon and in Cumberland County were recovered during service of the warrant. Hutchinson was arrested on a charge of possession of stolen firearms.

Hutchinson is next due in court on December 5.
