Filing Period Approaching for 2020 Primary Election Candidates

Effingham County Clerk Kerry Hirtzel has announced to candidates interested in running for county offices, to be nominated or elected in the March 17, 2020 General Primary Election that the filing period is about to begin. The filing period for submitting completed nominating petitions is Monday, November 25, 2019 through Monday, December 2, 2019 at the County Clerk’s office.

The Primary Election is a Party Preference Election. Voters will choose a Democratic or a Republican ballot.

County offices to be nominated are Circuit Clerk, Coroner, and State’s Attorney along with five County Board District Members. Those districts are A, E, F, H and I. All 37 precincts will be electing Precinct Committeemen. Petition filers are reminded that the County Clerk’s office will be closed on Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29, 2019 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Federal offices that will also be nominated in the General Primary Election including US President and Vice President, US Congressional Representative, US Senator. State offices to be nominated are Senators (55th District) and Representatives (107th, 109th Districts). Other offices include judges and Democratic and Republican Party Presidential Convention Delegates.

The General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
