Two Injured When Cycle on Interstate Strikes Deer

Two people on a motorcycle were injured Tuesday evening when the cycle struck a deer.

The incident happened at 5:57pm on I-57 northbound, about three miles south of the south tri-level at Effingham.

Illinois State Police report the northbound cycle was operated by 45-year-old Christopher Marlow of Terre Haute, Indiana. Police say a deer ran onto the roadway from the east in front of the cycle, and Marlow was unable to avoid striking the deer head-on. After making impact with the deer, the cycle overturned onto the driver's side, ejecting both occupants from the unit.

The passenger on the cycle, 40-year-old April Marlow of Terre Haute, was airlifted from the scene to Carle Hospital in Urbana.

No citations were issued.

The northbound lanes of I-57 at the scene of the crash were closed for about an hour.
