The Jefferson Avenue reconstruction project in downtown Effingham is nearing completion.

Phase 5 is almost finished with the sealing of joints and the red brick crosswalk to be completed Wednesday. It is anticipated Phase 5 will be open to traffic this Thursday.

The contractor is doing a general cleanup on Jefferson from Front Street to 3rd Street with the crews working in various locations, so please use caution.

There will be a closure of Banker Street between Jefferson and Washington Avenues on Wednesday to install an asphalt transition between the new and old pavement. The work is expected to be completed before noon.

The contractor is awaiting the striping sub-contractor for a schedule for the striping. The City has informed them the preference is a Monday due to less traffic. The City will provide notice when the striping is scheduled.

The City also has announced that the Effingham Halloween Parade will be able to use the normal parade route, including Jefferson through the downtown.
