Two area residents were injured in a Sunday night crash in Moccasin Township.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department reports a car driven by 17-year-old Blake Fulk of Effingham was headed north on 300th Street, just south of 1500th Avenue, just after 10:30pm when the crash occurred.

Deputies say the car left the roadway and struck the west ditch, then overturned several times and landed on its roof.

Fulk and his passenger, 19-year-old Zachary Hanley of Sigel, were both injured. Both were taken to HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Fulk was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, failure to wear a seat belt, driving in the wrong lane, illegal consumption of liquor by a minor, and illegal possession of alcohol by a minor.
