Former Altamont Resident Killed in Crash in Arizona

A former Altamont resident was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday.

25-year-old Heather Began had been living in Arizona for the past year. Her vehicle collided with another unit at an intersection in Phoenix Saturday evening. Phoenix authorities notified the Effingham County Coroner's Office of the death at 9:30pm. 

According to information relayed to County Coroner Kim Rhodes by her family, Heather was a first-grade teacher in Avondale, Arizona. This was her second year of teaching. She also worked part-time at a mission and part-time at the nature center. Today would have been Heather's 26th birthday.

The other driver in the collision was critically injured.
