Effingham city officials Thursday confirmed that work continues on a retail development project north of Interstates 57/70. The officials could not confirm what stores might be included in the development project.

Information was sent to our studios Thursday afternoon regarding the proposed development by a listener. The site is east and north of the Buffalo Wild Wings/Express Care complex. As many as 10 retail stores could be part of the development.

City Administratory Steve Miller, Economic Development Director Todd Hull and Enterprise Zone Administrator Sasha Althoff joined in a conference call with News Director Greg Sapp to say that work has been going on for some time toward developing the area, but said the developers have asked that any potential stores not be publicly identified.

The information sent us indicated that construction of the commercial project is slated for 2020 and is to be operational in 2021. The information did identify some retail stores and is asking for other interested entities to contact the developer.

We will keep you up to date.
