A SUV and semi collided just before 2am Sunday on I-70 westbound, four miles east of Vandalia.

State police say the SUV driven by 26-year-old Viridiana Enriquez-Linares of Granite City struck a guardrail on the left side of the road, causing Enriquez-Linares to lost control of the vehicle. The unit went into the right lane of traffic where it was struck by the semi driven by 24-year-old Jaskaran Singh of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. Singh took evasive action but couldn't avoid a collision.

Five people were traveling in the SUV, including children ages 2, 5 and 10. One of the children was taken to St. Louis Children's Hospital for treatment of what were termed as minor injuries.

Enriquez-Linares was cited for improper lane usage, no insurance and no use of a child restraint device.
