Shelby County Coroner Brian Green, one of the longest-serving elected officials in the area, has announced he will not seek re-election in 2020.

When Green leaves office at the end of October 2020, he will have completed nine terms in office. That's 36 years.

Green said it's just time; he had retired in earlier years from his duties with the Lockart-Green Funeral Homes in the area.

As to how he got into coroner's duties, Green said the funeral homes were already covering much of Shelby County and he was already dealing with many of the deaths that occurred in the county.

Green wanted to thank those who have assisted him through the years, saying "I've gotten to work with some great people."
