Details are in on a three-vehicle crash Friday morning that occurred on US Route 40 in Funkhouser.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department reports the crash occurred at 10:27am at 970th Street. The vehicles involved were driven by 52-year-old Victor Rice of Altamont, 24-year-old Ashtyn Miller of Effingham, and 63-year-old Mary Hoffman of Effingham.

Deputies report all three vehicles were eastbound on the highway. Hoffman's vehicle slowed to turn north onto 970th Street, and Miller slowed behind Hoffman. Rice's vehicle did not slow and struck Miller's vehicle from behind, causing Miller's vehicle to strike the Hoffman vehicle in the rear corner. Miller's vehicle veered off the highway, coming to rest upright in the south ditch. Rice's vehicle came to a stop on the highway. Hoffman was able to pull off the highway.

Miller was injured and was treated at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Rice told deputies he was distracted and did not see the vehicles ahead of him slowing down. Rice was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash and for operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Miller was also cited for driving on a suspended license and for operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
