Illinois State Trooper Nicholas Hopkins was laid to rest Sunday.

Hopkins, from Waterloo, was shot and killed serving a warrant in East St. Louis on August 23.

Illinois State Police Acting Director Brendan Kelly said that Hopkins' final act of sacrifice, donating his organs so others could live, was a moment of pride on an otherwise dark and sad day...

Hopkins leaves behind twin four-year-olds and an infant daughter.

Members of the Effingham County Sheriff's Department attended the visitation Saturday. On Sunday, other sheriff's department members were present for the funeral, as well as an officer from the Effingham Police Department and two members of the Jasper County Sheriff's Department.
