Tornado sirens sounded in Effingham Sunday afternoon after a funnel cloud was spotted about three miles north of the city. A small thunderstorm was moving east just north of Effingham.

The tornado did touch down, confirmed by trained weather spotters with the National Weather Service, prompting a brief Tornado Warning for much of Cumberland County. The tornado was classified by the NWS as a weak "landspout tornado".

Area resident Trent Alan shot video of the funnel cloud as it began to come down near the rest area on Interstate 57 north of Effingham.
