Enrollment in the Dieterich school district continues to increase.

Dieterich Superintendent Cary Jackson told board members at this month's meeting that 343 students are registered at the elementary school, and 209 at the junior-senior high school. That total of 554 students is a 31-student increase from last school year.

Jackson also reported on the tentative budget for the new school year. Projections are for just over $5 million in income as opposed to just under $5 million in expenditures. Formal action on the budget will come at the September meeting.

The Board also designated hazardous routes where the district operates buses inside the designated 1-1/2 mile boundaries and can still qualify for state transportation funds; approved the staff seniority lists; accepted a donation from Christ's Church for use of school facilities for their activities; and approved board policy updates.

Board members approved a request from the Dieterich 4th of July Committee allowing them to place a stage near the bus garage during next year's 4th of July activities; and heard from Principals Scott Kocher and Josh Benefiel on the Illinois Assessment of Readiness exams taken by Dieterich students in the spring with final results expected in September or October.

The Dieterich board approved leaves of absence for aide Jayne Oaks and teacher Deanna Worman. The Board hired Leslie Meinhart as an aide, Scarlet McBride and Katie Hagen as After School Program co-directors, and Tomi Tolch as an After School Program aide.
