The Salem City Council has agreed to sell the former Yellow Freight property to Effingham-based Agracel, Incorporated.

The development company will pay $175,000 for the land, the same amount the City of Salem paid for it several years ago.

Salem City Manager Bill Gruen said Agracel still needs additional approval before any work can begin. Gruen said, "They want to construct parking. The motion that the city council made is contingent upon a development agreement with them. They want to get going on it so it is constructed by the end of Fall, so we're going to have to move on that pretty fast."

Gruen said Agracel is working with North American Lighting to provide the space for employee parking. NAL has already been using the land for that purpose. The City of Salem recently tore down the old freight terminal on the property.
