Attempted Murder in Salem Thursday Night

Salem Police say one person was injured and another has been taken into custody following a shooting at approximately 10:30 Thursday night in a home in Salem.

Salem Police Chief Sean Reynolds says a 20-year-old male victim was located upon their arrival at the scene, with an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to Salem Township Hospital and later airlifted to a St. Louis area hospital where he underwent surgery.  

At last report, a family member said the victim was in stable condition and is expected to survive.

Nineteen-year-old Nathanial Fink was taken into custody at his home by Salem Police and Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies. Fink is currently being held in the Marion County Jail on charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Salem Police are contining the investigation and were assisted by the Marion Counry Sheriff’s Department, Marion County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigations Unit.
