Effingham Park Board commissioners Wednesday approved the budget and appropriations ordinance for the fiscal year.

Park District Director Jeff Althoff said the total budget is $1.4 million, of which $500,000 is for debt service on the Workman Sports and Wellness Complex.

Speaking of the Workman Complex, representatives of Rink Management, the firm operating the complex, reported 1,863 memberships, as well as 457 Silver Sneakers memberships. That translates to 5,275 members at the complex. The next big effort at the complex is the Junior NBA Program.

The Board also discussed how to handle the treasurer's position and its duties. Althoff said Treasurer Anita Broom is desirous of giving up the position. He said the thought is having a board member serve as treasurer and then having members of the Park District staff assume the daily duties of the treasurer's office. The matter is up for further discussion before it's finalized.

Althoff also discussed the approaching wrap-up of the summer baseball and softball seasons, and gearing up for soccer and flag football sign-up.
