Mississippi Man Killed in Crash at Salem

A Mississippi man was killed in a crash on I-57 at Salem Tuesday morning.

State police say 44-year-old Randy Barnes of Ripley, Mississippi was a passenger in a car that crashed at 11:31am in the southbound lanes of the interstate.

A car driven by 49-year-old Dary Barnes of Ripley ran off the left side of the interstate into the median then came back on to the roadway, then off to the right.. Barnes lost control of the car and overturned, coming to rest in the median. Randy Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Dary Barnes, a 13-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, all from Ripley, were each injured. The three were airlifted from the scene, Dary Barnes to HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield and the two 13-year-olds to St. Louis Children's Hospital.

Dary Barnes was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash and improper lane usage.
