Funding for the reconstruction of Fayette Avenue through Effingham was included in Governor Pritzker's "Rebuild Illinois" transportation improvement package.

Now, IDOT is waiting to find out when the funding will be released.

The package includes $61.2 million for US 40, Illinois 33 and Fayette Avenue through the city. IDOT District 7 Program Development Engineer Greg Jamerson said the next step is to find out when the funds will become available. The project is part of a six-year package of work across Illinois.

Much planning was done several years ago including focus groups in an effort to determine where the roadway will be expanded. Jamerson said that work was done more than a decade ago, but not much has changed. The consensus was that most of the land for an expansion of Fayette would come from the south side of the roadway.

Jamerson said once the money is committed, land acquisition can begin. He said much of the work for the project is pretty far along, especially the stretch from the interstate east to Banker Street. He said the interstate to Banker stretch will be completed first, then the area from Banker, east.

We will keep you up-to-date as the process progresses.
