4th of July activities actually begin in the area tonight.

The Good Neighbors of Lake Sara will sponsor their annual fireworks display at 9:15pm near the beach.

Effingham County Dive Rescue Team Commander Terry Trueblood said they will be shutting off Beach Road at 9pm. They are encouraging those planning to attend to start arriving about 7pm. Parking crews will be there to help. The Dive Rescue Team will be cooking, there will be a DJ, and the beach will be open.

Trueblood reminds there is only one road in and one road out to and from the fireworks, so exercise patience and they will get you in and out as quickly as possible.

The Village of Dieterich's celebration also begins tonight at Liberty Memorial Park.

A variety of food vendors and the beer tent will open at 5:30pm. A DJ will be there from 6 to 7:45pm. The band "Identity Crisis" will perform from 8 to 11pm tonight.

A full day of activities is planned Thursday in Dieterich, including the parade at 11am and the fireworks at 9:15pm. A full list of activities can be found on our Community Calendar page.
