Dieterich village board members have decided to give a residential property developer another year to sell four lots in Northpointe Estates Subdivision, but the dimensions of the project have changed.

The four lots were purchased by Illinois Affordable Homes when the Effingham Regional Growth Alliance was attempting to start a self-help housing program. Under the Alliance's program, the purchasers of the four lots would help each other build their homes.

Dieterich Village Clerk and Economic Development Coordinator Brittny Gipson said, however, that purchasers could not be found for the lots. Gipson said working people were limited to nights and weekends to do any homebuilding and contractors were not available due to other demands on their time. The self-help program was officially ended recently, but the Board decided they would give Affordable Homes another year to sell the lots rather than have them revert to the Village to have to sell.

The Board further discussed the lettering to go on a monument leading into Hartke Subdivision on the west side of town, but reached no decision. An ordinance on a TIF agreement for the Dollar General project was tabled, but action on the agreement is expected in July.
