A stipulated bench trial has been scheduled for July 11 in the case of David Leroy Bright in Fayette County.

The 70-year-old Bright was arrested in January of 2018 in connection with the death of James Skinner of Brownstown in September of 2017. The two counts of first degree murder lodged against Bright are Class M felonies, each punishable by 20 years to life in prison.

The stipulated bench trial was scheduled during a court appearance Friday. The judge, rather than a jury, will consider the findings of Dr. Terry Killian, who examined Bright as to his fitness. If Bright is found fit to stand trial, the case could go to trial.

Bright remains in custody under $1 million bond.
