A car and SUV collided early Tuesday morning on I-70 in Cumberland County.

The crash happened at 1:43am, two miles east of Montrose.

Illinois State Police report a semi driven by 61-year-old Lindel Anderson of Rolla, Missouri struck a SUV driven by 36-year-old Melvin Fields of Baltimore, Maryland in the rear of Fields' trailer as it attempted to change lane and overtake Fields. Fields' vehicle left the roadway and became disabled in the right ditch.

The semi overturned on the driver's side in the right lane and right ditch of the interstate.

Both drivers were taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment of what were termed non-life threatening injuries.

Anderson was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.

One lane of eastbound I-70 was closed for some time early today due to the crash.
