The Teutopolis Board of Education Monday contracted with Upchurch Architects for design work on restrooms and locker rooms at the high school building.

The design work includes moving the women's restroom down to the main floor, a new men's restroom, locker rooms for boys and girls athletes, a relocated coaches office and a trainer room. The space would be across the main hallway from J.H. Griffin Gym.

The Board will later have to vote on whether to approve the design, and whether to let the work for bids.

The vote to seek the design work was 5-1, with new Board member Brian Meyer voting No.

Board members also approved Erin Ordner to fill a vacancy on the school board. Ordner will fill a vacancy that has existed since only three people ran for four open seats on the Board in the March election.

The Board approved changes to the agreement with Eastern Illinois Area Special Education, and also approved an agreement with the Effingham County Sheriff's Department for school resource officers. The fee will go up two dollars, to $20 per student for the coming year, and up to $23 per student for the 2020-2021 school year.

Board members also acted on personnel moves. Dustin McDonald was hired as a high school Math teacher for the coming school year, and Susan Mills was hired as assistant volleyball coach and Kendra Dye was appointed volunteer volleyball coach. Also, Tonya Mersman was hired as a five-hour cook, rather than a four-hour cook, and Jeanette Runde was given an additional hour for custodial work to go with her cook's duties.
