A car and semi collided Thursday morning on I-70 between Effingham and Altamont.

State police report the car driven by 27-year-old Daniel Curtis Stites of St. Elmo was eastbound about five miles east of Altamont when the crash happened at 6:33am. The semi, driven by 24-year-old Milisav Marsenac of Everett, Washington, was stopped due to backed up traffic from a disabled vehicle. Police say Stites failed to stop and ran into the back of the stopped semi.

Stites was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment of what police termed minor injuries.

Stites was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
