One adult and one child were injured in a crash in the northern part of Effingham County Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened at 2:34pm on Illinois Route 32 at County Road 1900 North.

State police report a car driven by 23-year-old Dakota Ward of Shumway was slowed in traffic to turn west off the highway onto 1900 North. The driver of the other car involved in the crash, 28-year-old Tanisha Watson of Shelbyville, said she took her eyes off the roadway and did not see Ward's car in the roadway. Watson swerved her car in an attempt to avoid Ward, was not able to avoid a collision.

Watson's car struck the Ward car, then swerved off the roadway and came to rest on the east side of the highway in a tree line.

There were four juveniles in Ward's car, a 13-year-old girl, a two-year-old boy, a four-year-old girl and a three-year-old girl, all from Shumway. Their names were not released.

Watson and one of the juveniles were injured and were taken by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Each driver was cited; Watson for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, and Ward for failure to secure a child in a restraining device.
