A vacancy has been filled on the Cumberland Board of Education.

The Board named Anita Hayden to fill the spot left open by Jack Ingram's resignation.

Howard Markwell voted No on the appointment, but said that was due to the procedure used to fill the slot, not against Hayden.

The Board made note of the 700th career victory for Cumberland baseball coach Mark Jackley, achieved earlier this month. Jackley won most of his games in a long career at Mattoon High School before being named Cumberland coach. Also recognized was Cumberland student Kendall Plummer, who was elected second vice-president of the state Student Council.

Board members approved a request from Neal Center YMCA in Toledo to use Cumberland district buses on YMCA summer program field trips. The Y will reimburse 100% of fuel costs and driver salary to the district.

Action was taken to fill many coaching positions. They include Traci Becker as assistant high school girls basketball coach, Korey Zike as assistant wrestling coach, Shaina Oakley-Kanizer as high school cheerleading coach, Jenny Miller as high school dance coach, Cole Carlen and Greg Boldt as high school boys basketball assistant coaches, Seth Repp as high school assistant football coach, Audra Speakman as high school head volleyball coach, Nicole McCown as high school assistant volleyball coach, Jim Miller as high school cross country coach, Audra Speakman as middle school head volleyball coach, Jennie Stults as middle school assistant volleyball coach, Greg Boldt as assistant middle school baseball coach, John Hendrix as middle school assistant softball coach, and Steve Maroon as middle school boys assistant basketball coach.

The Board also voted to accept Stacy Keyser's resignation as the district's Musical Director, effective immediately.
