Precipitation the past 12 months (from May 2018 through April) was the wettest yearlong period on record in the U.S., according to the the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information reported average precipitation across the contiguous U.S. totaled 36.2 inches the past 12 months. It’s the first yearlong span to top 36 inches on record, dating back to 1895.

The previous 12-month precipitation record was 35.78 inches recorded from April 2015 to March 2016.

This probably comes as no surprise to farmers who experienced extreme delays in some areas for harvest last fall followed by more of the same so far this planting season.
