Altamont City Council Reorganizes for New Term

Altamont city council members Monday were sworn in to new four-year terms on the Council.

Jason Rippetoe was sworn in for another term as mayor, while Dan Milleville, Todd Slingerland, Mike Walker and Tayler Polk were sworn in as the four commissioners. Rippetoe will oversee public relations; Milleville is Commissioner of Accounts and Finances, overseeing the parks and cemeteries; Slingerland is Commissioner of Public Health and Safety, overseeing the water and sewer departments; Walker is Electrical Commissioner; and Polk is Commissioner of Streets and Public Improvements.

In other business, the Altamont council approved a request from the Masonic Lodge for the annual Memorial Day parade, set for Monday, May 27 at 10am. The procession will travel from Altamont Community High School, west on Division Street to Main Street, and then north on Main to Union Cemetery.

The Council also approved a request for a controlled burn by Altamont American Legion Post #512 for retirement of unserviceable flags. The ceremony will begin at 6pm on June 14, Flag Day. The public is invited to attend the ceremony.
